How to prepare for your Newborn shoot

Thanks so much for booking in your shoot with us

I can't wait to meet you & your beautiful new edition.

Here are just a few things to think about before your shoot to make it run as smooth as possible.

Timeframe

Roughly a newborn shoot is anywhere between 45minutes to 2hrs. Every Bub is different so we just go with flow and work around their body clock.

Feeding

If possible try not feed bubs 1hr-1.5hr prior to the shoot as when you arrive we will get him/her undressed, wrap them up and if they're not too sleepy I’ll get you to feed before we start. I'm also happy if he/she takes a bottle to feed them while you sit back and relax. Which ever you feel most comfortable with

If you are breastfeeding, please feel free to nurse anytime during the session. I am comfortable and happy to photograph those tender moments, or if you prefer privacy I can step outside of the room if needed just let me know.

Outfit

Dressing baby is very simple: Neutral outfit & nappy. Mostly I work with bubs undressed and in a wrap, but if you have a special outfit you'd like babe photographed in by all means bring that along and we will get some cute ones in that also.

If I could ask that you have a white nappy on him/her ( not rascal & friends as the green is quite bright if it pops out for the images) Huggies are perfect.

Mum , Dad & Family

It is nice to plan out some outfit options for the family before the arrival of your little one as after they have made their appearance, shopping or coordinating outfits can be a bit of a challenge. My personal favourites are simple and neutral colours and tones; textures such as knits and linen always look great too. Whites, creams, greys, blushes and other light tones that complement baby's skin are a great option. Try to avoid neon and bold colours and big logos on t-shirts.

Mums, firstly Whether you had a vaginal or c-section delivery, your body just went through an intense transformation. Please don't put pressure on yourself to get too dressed up or go over the top getting ready. You may be tender after bringing your little one into the world, so wearing loose-fitting clothing such as dresses or flowy tops will be most comfortable. Plain t-shirts and trousers/jeans work great for dads

Bath time

Bubs is fine to have a bath just try not to use any oils or moisturiser 24hrs prior just to minimise the shininess. Also if he/she hasn't a bath yet that's okay too.

Siblings

If you are welcoming a sibling, yay! I love to capture the beautiful and chaotic moments that are all-things siblings! When a toddler enters the show, all bets are off as to what can happen, but those are some of the best moments of all!

LOCATION

You can choose between having your newborn shoot at my home studio room which is all set up and has consistent diffused light or if you aren't feeling up to as I know those first few days are a blur of night feedings, changing nappies, just staring at this amazing little being that grew inside you & would like the shoot in your own home that's perfectly fine too. ( There may just be a tiny travel fee)

The rest leave up to me ...

My style is simplistic and natural, focusing on capturing the essence of your baby and all the details that make them so special. Their fuzzy shoulders to their tiny little toes. This session includes a range of relaxed, posed and macro detail images. I want these images to not only preserve what your newborn looks like but to remind you of what they felt like to hold in your arms. I love to capture the tenderness and connection between you and your baby. Forever bottling up that feeling of new love.
